Ànima is a collaborative project created by MEATS students and ELISAVA undergraduates, initially developed for the LLUM BCN Festival in 2020. Led by Cube.bz and the directors of MEATS, this work was later brought to the UK for the Canary Wharf Winter Lights Festival 2023, marking its first return since 2020.
The interactive lights in this 2023 version of the immersive installation maintain the same qualities as the 2020 version, with modifications made to adapt it to the new location. Representing a vast web of collective information, the lights are born from the data we generate at the speed of light. As they glow from thousands of optical fibers, they remind us that we are all connected—equally part of one larger, digital soul.
Ànima II evolved into a larger tunnel, with more than 3,000 fiber optic threads used to symbolize the flow of data. Suspended from the ceiling and illuminated from above, these strands create an immersive space where the audience can interact with the light. This experience allows visitors to feel connected to the journey that data undertakes.
