“Meet Me In The Mirror” is a play on light, reflection, and time. The connection and the shared encounters that exist between our current presence and the presence of those of the past, along with those of the future is highlighted through the use of motion activated light.
The aim is to have the viewers reflect on themselves, while being aware of the presence and absence of past and future existences. In one instance, the light turns on as someone appears on the other side; and in another, it fades as the person disappears and someone new shows up somewhere else.
Similar to a timeline of the past and future, the installation plays a similar role. It is a somewhat one sided interaction; you can see but cannot “touch” or control.
The site adds an interesting angle to the narrative. It previously existed as an industrial structure for a railway car. The location was later renovated into a park; however, the structure was preserved. Being old and having its own history makes it a place where people have had shared meetings and experiences. Like the site, our existence holds a presence of those before us and will hold a presence for those who come after.
