Liquid Light is a light installation in Brønshøj Vandtårn, a former water tower that once served as part of Copenhagen’s water supply. Streams of light appear to seep out through the tower’s portholes and run down the sides, symbolizing a connection between water systems—both past and present. Once surrounded by wetlands, the tower’s location evokes a time when water moved freely through the landscape. The light’s movement suggests a return to this natural state, subtly reflecting the way water continues to shape the city, from underground reservoirs to the canals and harbor.
Drawing inspiration from the tower’s history and architectural features, Liquid Light visualizes the unseen movement of water through light. The installation responds directly to the tower’s circular form and openings to create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, transforming the tower into a glowing beacon. By merging light and architecture, it reimagines Brønshøj Vandtårn’s place within the city, turning it into a living artwork that reminds us of water’s essential yet often invisible presence in our surroundings. While the installation evokes motion and energy, it simultaneously invites stillness—offering the viewer a moment to pause, look upward, and experience a sense of connection to the natural forces that have shaped this site and continue to flow through the city.
