The Red Light District is a well-known part of Amsterdam’s cultural identity, deeply tied to the city’s reputation for open-mindedness and personal freedom. However, it also remains a taboo subject, as not everyone—whether in the Netherlands or beyond—feels comfortable with such liberties. This installation is designed to challenge perceptions, humanize the individuals on both sides of the window, and celebrate coexistence. Visitors are invited to step into the window themselves, experiencing two perspectives at once. In one moment, they see their own reflection; in the next, they see a friend or a stranger on the other side.

These parallel realities encourage reflection on the fluidity of identity—one could just as easily be inside the window as outside it. By blurring these boundaries, the installation fosters empathy and acceptance of different lived experiences.
