Inspired by Nobel Prize Winner, Niels Ryberg Finsen, for his work contributing to the treatment of diseases using concentrated light radiation; "Cosmic Auras" is designed to have a similar effect as a light therapy lamp—known for enhancing moods. This site is a space where there is constant movement present on a daily basis. The installation transforms it by slowing things down, inviting the audience to pause, reflect, and breathe. It plays on different light settings in relation to the different times of day.
The tunnel consists of four parts; each assigned a specific setting, referred to as auras. The first being the cool toned daylight aura, the next having the cool toned sunrise/sunset aura, the third having the warm toned nighttime aura, and the final one having the warm toned sunrise/sunset aura. The use of gradients is key to the light therapy effect created in this installation, with the shape of the tunnel playing an important role. Two different colored lights are placed on the opposing walls of the tunnel and blended in the arch of the ceiling, creating the aura's gradient of light.
Meditational soundscapes will also be played during the walkthrough of the installation in order to help clear out the minds of the visitors and help them enter into a relaxed state.
